A Huge Helps At Hospice – Morley Glass Donates IGUs & Blinds

New Inpatient Unit at Overgate Hospice featuring glazing and motorised integral blinds donated by Morley Glass.

Morley Glass donated a large package of high-performance IGUs and motorised integral blinds for a West Yorkshire hospice upgrade which is now complete.

The new state-of-the-art facility at Overgate Hospice has transformed what had become a dated building into a world-class Inpatient Unit, enabling the team to provide the highest levels of care and support for people living with life-limiting illnesses.

The quality of these facilities will be matched in the team’s next project which is already underway to refurbish the site’s original Victorian building to create a new Day Hospice. Morley Glass is also supporting this project.

Big Build Appeal

Overgate Hospice has delivered care for more than 45 years but investment was needed. Following the launch of a ‘Big Build Appeal’ fundraising project in 2024, the hospice embarked on its plans to radically redevelop the site with the goal of increasing its capacity for care in its Inpatient Unit and Day Hospice services.

The new Inpatient Unit provides spacious new bedrooms which are filled with light and are fully accessible.

Key to achieving the design aims was the incorporation of full width sliding doors in each of the 16 new bedrooms, that not only maximise natural light but also ensure patients have easy access to the landscaped outdoor spaces.

Morley Glass saw an opportunity to assist and allow the team to enhance the specification by providing motorised integral blind units for the sliding doors, as well as for the other windows within the bedrooms. In addition, the company offered to manufacture and supply all the other standard IGUs required for the rest of the complex at no cost.

Laura Golding, Director of Income Generation, Overgate Hospice, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Morley Glass for their continued support for our Big Build Appeal, which has helped us to create our new Inpatient Unit and transform the care we can provide to patients and families.

“But our Big Build journey doesn’t stop there. Our next step is the development of a new, larger Day Hospice, which will provide a flexible and welcoming space for more patients to access our specialist support, therapeutic and social activities.”

Ian Short, Managing Director, Morley Glass added: “From the moment I first learned of the Big Build Appeal and the plans for redeveloping the hospice, I wanted our company to help. With the range of products and systems we manufacture, there was an amazing opportunity for us to not only meet the specification but offer something even better so patients and their families benefit from care in the highest quality environment.

“In particular, we wanted to help the team create rooms which offer the perfect combination of privacy, comfort and access to the gardens by providing specialist glazing with motorised integral blinds for the sliding doors. The ScreenLine MB System we used here enables patients to operate the blinds using a remote control from their beds, offering easy operation for those with reduced mobility.”

The integral blind units will also benefit Overgate Hospice from an operational perspective. As the blinds are permanently encapsulated within the glass units, they support infection control objectives as they cannot attract dirt or dust, offering a very low maintenance solution that is reliable and durable for the long term.
