Forshaw For Sure – £100 Million Homes Plan
Leeds City Council has received the plans from Forshaw Groups for New Foundry Square, a £100 million, 1.4-hectare brownfield site project of one, two and three-bedroom homes.
The development sits just west of Leeds city centre and will form part of the Kirkstall Road Renaissance Area – a regeneration that encompasses the Renaissance Art institute which is a hub for media and arts organisations such as the BBC and Northern Ballet.
The development has been designed by Ollier Smurthwaite Architects of Manchester and will reflect the regions’ industrial history...taking cues from historic warehouses and mills. Heritage building products will be in high demand.
New Foundry Square
Designed to attract young professionals, growing families and empty nesters, New Foundry Square sits at one end of the development. It will feature 49 apartments with three bedrooms, 219 two-bedroom apartments and 236 one-bedroom apartments.
The planning application includes an affordable housing statement to ensure inclusivity and accessibility, stating that 7% of all units will be affordable homes.
However, there will be a gym, sauna and swimming pool, resident lounges and co-working spaces, nine small, independent stores a games room and movie lounge, private dining and a 24-hour concierge service which might make ‘affordability’ a little out of the average nurse’s salary.
A new green pedestrian link, with trees and play boundary, will make a safe and enjoyable place to walk through the development, it is claimed.
