Backing Black For Blinds
Black integral blinds are on the ascendency, with silver continuing to prove particularly popular for specific systems, according to an analysis by Morley Glass.
In fact, the company’s sales data reveals that around two thirds of all Uni-Blinds are manufactured in colours other than white.
Anthracite’s is declining in popularity, although the drop is relatively small. In 2024, Anthracite’s share stood at 30.4% of sales. This has reduced to 28.7% in the latest report from Morley. One of the reasons why Anthracite is being chosen by fewer customers compared to previous years may be the availability of more ScreenLine colours introduced to the UK market by Morley Glass over the past few years.
Black in demand
One of the notable upward trends is black (B160), which is now chosen for 10% of all Uni-Blinds units, reflecting its current popularity in contemporary interior décor. Silver (S157) continues to be a popular colour choice for both the slimline ScreenLine SL16 system and the battery-operated W Smart, accounting for 17.5% of sales of both systems.
White continues to account for the lion’s share of sales with almost 37% of all ScreenLine Venetian integral blind units manufactured in this colour by Morley Glass in 2025. Its timeless appeal is demonstrated by the fact that its share is actually increasing, up by 4 percentage points since 2023.
Agate grey
While the sales proportions for all the other Uni-Blinds colour options have remained relatively static, Morley Glass has seen a slight growth in Agate grey (S120) – indicating an increasingly popular niche. There is also some variation across the different ScreenLine systems, with black being the third most popular colour for the magnetic slider controlled SV and SV+ systems in the standard SL20 range, and both beige and cream each accounting for approaching 7% of sales of the SL20 MB System.
Ian Short, managing director of Morley Glass, said: “Given how well white integral blinds complement virtually every other colour, it is no surprise that a large proportion of homeowners and commercial customers opt for this. But what is interesting to see is that of all our other colours, Anthracite, black and silver are undoubtedly the standout performers, signalling that these neutral options are not only very much on-trend but also compatible with the wider choice of frame colours now available to property owners and developers.”
Colour options
Morley Glass offers a wide range of colours for its Venetian and pleated integral blinds to give end-users an opportunity to match to an existing décor scheme or integrate with their new build or refurbishment project plans. For Venetian integral blinds, fourteen colours are available for SL20 systems, which fit within IGUs with a standard 20mm cavity, and there are nine colour options for the slimline SL16 systems. And for pleated integral blinds, customers can choose from twelve colours for vanity blinds and eight for the pleated blackout.
