Big Development – Penberthy And Mate Make Moves

Industry data marketing company, Insight Data, has strengthened its team with the appointment of two software developers, Sam Penberthy and Levi Mate.

Both join the company to work on the next generation of Insight Data’s in-house platforms, including the continued development of Salestracker and a new standalone version of the company’s STEM application.

Penberthy arrives with a background in games programming and teaching. Before joining Insight Data he lectured in games development at a college in Bristol. He has also worked as a developer on a range of digital projects, including the building of a mobile application for a playground design company. The App recreates playground games in a virtual format while also directing users to nearby locations where the real-world versions can be played, encouraging outdoor activity.

He is now leading the development of a dedicated mobile version of Insight Data’s Salestracker platform, creating bespoke Apps for both iOS and Android.

Mate

Levi Mate joins Insight Data after graduating with a computer science degree from the University of the West of England.

Originally from Hungary, Mate grew up with a strong interest in technology before moving to the Netherlands to study game design. After leaving that course he relocated to the UK and later returned to higher education to study in Bristol, graduating last year.

During his studies he worked on several independent development projects, including building a full online booking system and website for a private hire taxi business. He said: “The company was taking bookings almost entirely by phone. I built the website so customers could book online, which has worked well and has led to other businesses asking for similar systems.”

At Insight Data Mate is working on the redevelopment of STEM, a tool that is being rebuilt as a standalone application separate from Salestracker. “The aim is to rebuild it from the ground up so it can work with a range of other systems and future developments,” Mate said.

Penberthy

Penberthy said: “I’ve moved from games development into software. There are a lot of strong crossovers. My focus here is building the mobile App for Salestracker, starting with key functions like the list builder and dashboard and expanding it from there.”

He first discovered Insight Data after attending a TED-style talk given by the company’s founder Andrew Scott and later reached out to explore potential opportunities. “I didn’t even realise the company was so close to where I live,” Penberthy said. “I went to the talk, found it really interesting and got in touch afterwards. It’s been a great experience so far.”

Both developers say working in software requires adaptability as technology and markets evolve rapidly. “Things can change week to week,” said Penberthy. “You have to be flexible and ready to respond. AI can speed up your progress enormously, yet you still need to understand what it produces, otherwise you end up with messy code that’s harder to maintain later.”

Growth

The appointments come as Insight Data continues to expand its software capability and develop new digital tools for the industry. Andrew Scott, managing director of Insight Data, said: “Sam and Levi bring fresh perspectives and deep technical skill, strengthening our ability to innovate across all our platforms. Their work is helping us rethink how our software evolves and positions Insight for the challenges and opportunities ahead.”
